Some pros have outstanding personalities, others have great business sense, while others are wonderful teachers. The purpose in hiring a consultant is to allow an outside party to identify the strengths and weaknesses of your pro, and to assist the pro with improving the weaknesses, while accentuating his or her strengths. The Situation Requiring a Consultant THE SCENARIO A new pro is hired, members are pleased, the pro loves his or her job, and the honeymoon begins. Soon member complaints begin and the General Manager is asking the pro for changes. The pro becomes defensive, the members are increasingly unhappy, and the Board is looking for a quick solution. The pro is forced to resign or is terminated, and the process begins anew. THE PROBLEMS Lack of communication, with pros listening but not hearing, is the #1 problem.
